Date night, anyone? Unfortunately, Josh and I have not been very good about making time to go out on our own without the kid. We’ve also cut back on eating out quite a bit and don’t find ourselves sitting in a restaurant very often with or without kid. The folks at Rockin’ Baby sure know how to create hip and stylish baby carriers. The fabrics they use for their ring slings and pouches are to die for! I’m not sure if you’ll find more beautiful fabric combinations anywhere else. This is probably one of the reasons why celebrities like Gwen Stefani make sure their babies are carried in a Rockin’ Baby carrier.

The Rockin’ Baby Pouch is reversible and adjustable. The adjustable zipper feature means that you can get the right fit most of the time, and other people who aren’t your size can also wear your baby or toddler. Unlike some other pouches out there, this pouch is made with a deep seat which is perfect for getting your newborn in and settled easily. I did find, however, that the deep seat pocket also meant that there was a lot of excess fabric when carrying a toddler in the hip position. For the most comfortable wear, make sure the fabric around the shoulder area is spread out wide.

If you’re interested in being able to adjust the fit of your carrier even more, a Rockin’ Baby Ring Sling may be perfect for you. You can get the perfect fit every time by adjusting the fabric around the rings, and you’re also left with a flowy tail of beautiful fabric (which is great for discreet nursing). It comes in only one standard size which will work on everyone, but if you’re a shorty like me, you may want to hem the length a bit depending on how long you’d like the tail. I didn’t find the ring sling shoulders to be as comfy and supportive as others I’ve tried. If you end up feeling the same way, I’d recommend seeking the amazing service of Jan at Sleeping Baby Productions who can redo the shoulder style into one that’s super comfy (my favorite shoulder style for ring slings). Jan can also shorten the sling for you if needed (and all this for only $13).

If there’s a store around you that carry these carriers, I’d highly recommend seeing them and trying them on in person. I think they look even better in real life, and the weight of the fabrics used for each carrier design can vary quite a bit. Price: $92-102 for Ring Slings and $82 for Pouches at Rockin’ Baby Sling.

I’ve never been good at “doing hair,” my own or anyone else’s. I figured having a baby girl meant that I’d have plenty of time and opportunities to practice. So far, I haven’t done anything fancier than tying Pooky’s hair into pigtails, and that’s been going pretty well. I’ve discovered, though, that I don’t really need to learn anything fancier than pigtails because there are wonderful accessories like those from Out To Tea that make “doing hair” effortless.

They carry thin headbands made for babies, and thicker ones for older girls, teens, and adults.

Unfortunately, Pooky often feels compelled these days to pull out anything I put in her hair. If I’m sneaky enough, though, I can usually enjoy at least a few hours of her looking fabulous with her hair accessories. Price: $5.50 and up at Out To Tea.

If you’re looking for a baby shower gift that may have been overlooked by others, I’d suggest a soft and silky lovey. “Lovey” is a term that I wasn’t familiar with until I arrived in the land of parenthood. Apparently, it refers to small items, mainly blankies, that serve as a source of comfort for your baby.

The Gigi Blanki Co. creates lovey “blankis” that are meant to do just that – a portable mini-blanket that keeps baby feeling nice and secure. These are definitely meant as comfort items and are too small to be useful as a blanket (14″ x 16″). These unique WubbaNub Pacifiers are attached to cute stuffed animals and were invented by a mom who was tired of her baby getting up and crying several times each night because his pacifier fell out. The idea behind these pacifiers is that babies can hold onto the plush toy to keep it in and, if it falls out, they’ll be able to find it easily themselves to put back in.

We offered Pooky a pacifier when she was younger but she just never took to it. However, I can see how a plush pacifier can come in handy for binky addiction, especially when it can mean the difference between a sleepless night or a well rested one.
